Don't scare the children

For the last ten years the Wimborne Militia have fired of a volley of musketry as part of teh Christmas light swithch-on celebration in my home town. No more. They have been banned by the town council because,
“I have had quite a few people stop me in the street and ask me if muskets will be fired at the switching on of the lights this year. Last year, there were children who were very upset and crying for some time afterwards. It will stop a good number of people from coming to the town,”
So says deputy mayor, Cllr John Burden, the chairman of Wimborne Town Council’s Militia Management Committee.

Wimborne Town Council has 'Militia Management Committee'! And how much does that cost?

'Oppressive' twaddle - muskets are quieter than firework displays which children absolutely love.

Is it labour run Council ? If so, they're under increasing government orders to overthrow English traditions.
