Dear Colleagues and Friends,I wonder how many of the colleagues here will get Parliament funds to go on this little jolly. It just hits so many elite buttons.
Greetings from the Center for Asia Pacific Women in Politics (CAPWIP) and the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UN-ISDR)!
We are pleased to invite you to the Third Global Congress of Women in Politics and Governance which will be held on October 19-22, 2008 at the Dusit Hotel, Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The theme of the congress is "Gender and Climate Change".
Women and environment experts have raised concern over the absence of women in the discourse and debate on climate change, a global mainstream issue that is currently impacting the entire world. The involvement of women in areas of environmental management and governance should not be perceived as an
afterthought. Women's roles are of considerable importance in the promotion of
environmental ethics. The current imperative is for women to understand the phenomenon of climate change and its impacts and implications at the individual, household, community and national levels. Studies show that women have a definite information deficit on climate politics and climate protection. Only with this information can women take their proper, significant and strategic role in the issue of climate change.
Invited to this congress are women parliamentarians, women in decision - making and governance, environment organizations, youth Leaders and Media Practitioners
It will only cost a couple of grand to go, unmissable...

"Gender and Climate Change"
Surely it has been the desire of women to own such labour saving devices such as washing machines, vacuum cleaners and dishwashers which has contributed to global warming.
lets have less of this nonsense and get them back to scrubbing the front door step
:-)
Are there any women in UKIP? I haven't seen any. How can women contribute to the UKIP agenda when there is clearly a deficit of women in UKIP?
Climate change is not the only "information deficit" that women have.
anon 6.00. Women are too intelligent to have anything to do with UKIP.
Anoneumouse, your use of the yellow star is an insult to millions of people. I suppose that is your intention. Sad.
Thyere are plenty of women in UKIP, like most parties they make up the mainstay of the membership. In senior positions there is the Vice-Chairman, Rachel Oxley, the deputy head of press, the President of the Young Independence Lisa Duffy, Treasurer, Marta Andreason, and Brussels chief of staff Aurelie Laloux - who is French...
Come selction I expect that there will be a number who will be in winnable Euro election slots, all voted upon in a transparent one member one vote fashion.
What UKIP women share with UKIP men is a belief that our country should govern itself. The do not plead for or need special favours and do a damned good job.
Is Marta Andreasen a member? Is she a UK voter?
Yes, and no
I wish I could believe this was an April 1st prank but sadly, in the (un)real world all too plausible.
"Gender and Climate Change"; what the fuck does gender have to do with Climate Change? Is one of the two(?) sexes causing more than the other?
"concern over the absence of women in the discourse and debate on climate change". Who has expressed concerns? Where were they published? God, where do they get this rubbish from?
"The current imperative is for women to understand the phenomenon of climate change and its impacts ". Why? Can't they read? This has been THE item of news now for years, with countless thousands of pages written and published. Where have women been that they are only now aware that it has 'impacts'?
It just goes to show, tie 'Woman' and 'Climate Change' together in a single entity and you have a certain sure seat of the taxpayer feeding trough! What a great wheeze.
Sorry Gawain, I was being a bit dumb there and had forgotten about Marta Andreasen - which is unforgiveable! I think some women MEP candidates would make UKIP more appealing to the voting public. It all looks a bit blokey at the moment.
As for women being too intelligent to have anything to do with UKIP, Marta herself is an experienced international civil servant and a highly qualified professional. You may disagree with her views but her intelligence is surely not in doubt.
Icouldn't agree more about the need fdor a slightly broader group of individuals needed to represent UKIP's position in the EP. I hope that the selection process will do just that but the decision is in the hands of the membership.
And Marta is quite formidable, and in her own way unforgettable.
With apologies for crossing threads, I don't find Marta Andreasen impressive at all. I mean that without taking the side of the European Commission in her dispute with them. I could never understand the OECD episode.
Gawain aka Elaib is to be commended for his conviction politics but isn't Marta Andreasen a pro-EU person who has just found it more convenient recently to join up with the antis?
No, I think she was a proffessional accountant, who on discovering what she did, and the response of the EU authorities to it decided that it was unreformable, and thus was happy to accept out invitation to act as our treasurer.
She joined the party at that time.
Where does she live? (country not address)
Is she paid or purely honorary?
