'We' are not suffering from inflated self importance

A delightful email has landed in my inbox this morning, from a senior official in the private office of Mr Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the European parliament. The mail was sent to the Committee Secretariats in the Parliament who draft letters for his august signature,
"Dear Colleagues,

The President's private office has asked me to inform you about the following:
In drafting letters for the signature of President Pöttering, please never start the letter with the words

"ich", "Je" or "I"

Best regards,
Judith Ecker

Advisor to the Director General for
External Policies
So no doubt he would prefer 'Wir, Nous or we'?
