Germans invade Alsace

Last night in an illuminating vignette 40 police were called to a fracas at the European parliament in Strasbourg.
At about 10 o'clock hard working Eurocrats found themselves without taxis as an international trade dispute broke down to gang warfare.
Essentially four or five taxi drivers from Germany had made the 3 minute drive across the border to pick up lucrative custom at the Parliament. Indigenous French taxi drivers did not take kindly to this attempted application of the service directive and attacked them. The police were called in to break up the battle using there night sticks with gay abandon.

As things currently stand there are not enough taxis in Strasbourg during the plenary week, leaving tired and hungry types (no honstly) to wait for upwards of three quarters of an hour.

Oh the police ordered the Germans back across the border.

I thought those "EUrocrecians" were all supposed to love one another, now, and be one happy-feely family?

Didn't those Frog cab drivers attend the mandatory "love our neighborhood Kraut" teach-in?

Tsk! Tsk! Some EUropolitician's erstwhile plans for solidarity seem to have somehow run amuck on the rocky shoals of the free enterprise system.

Who'd a thunk it!
