It's OK guys we think we should raid the taxpayers too

Another day, and another load of rent seekers think that the benighted taxpayers should fork out for the Galileo project. Two weeks ago it was the Transport Council, last week it was the Tories and now it is the European Parliament's Budget committee.

It's all getting like the 'The Hunting of the Snark', and as the Bellman said, "I have said it thrice: What I tell you three times is true."

As today's Parliament press release says,

"Galileo should be financed from the EU budget
The EU Budget should be increased accordingly
Galileo is "of an enormous European added value".

It is aparent that Mr Böge has not been listening, the Council is not, I repeat not prepared to cough up the cash.

So why does he think this is such a pressing need? It all becomes clear he want the EU to find it out of "own resources" (don't you love that term, sugests that they made the money themselves doesn't it) because "the EP must have a full say over the future financing of Galileo. Parliament should therefore "reject a mixed financing from EU funds and other means, which are decided at intergovernmental level".

Yes he wants it to be an entirely EU controlled project. Hasn't he noticed there are countries involved in the ESA (who run Galileo) such as Switzerland who might not take to kinfly to his plans?
No obviously not, either that or he just doesn't care.
