Nothing like a Dame

It appears that noted Aussie thesp, Nicole Kidman, has been given Australia’s highest honour; the Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia. Jolly good show. But is does seem that globally this granting has been a bit of a damp squib.
Nobody seemed to notice. But previously honours of this sort such as those of Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Dame Julie Andrews, and Dame Judi Dench (or the Australian Dame Joan Sutherland and the New Zealander Dame Kiri Te Kanawa), were reported globally. Olivia Newton-John garnered more news coverage when she was appointed merely an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (O.B.E). Could it be that honours conferred by a system created on a purely nationalist basis is considerably less (even in the eyes of what the world finds noteworthy) than that flowing from The Queen.
This is despite the fact that awards within the Order of Australia are in fact made in the name of the Sovereign, although the practice of submitting the list of recommendations to The Queen personally was, I believe, abandoned at the direction of the lizard Prime Minister, Paul Keating.
Typical small minded, petty, and self destructive republicanism.

It could be that the British system has been around for so long and invaded so many countries they are still reporting it "Pavlovially".

The Australian thingo is new, but it might catch on, even if only in Oz but it'll still be better for them.

Wish I'd seen that. Any excuse to get Nicole on my blog.

Well, she is a bit of alright.

Tippler,
How can you suggest that this post was an excuse to post a pic of a babe? Pah, for shame sir.

Joliet,
I guess it seemed a bonza idea at the time, but honours and honourifics need substance, history and so on. By cutting off their nose - and yes Queeny is still head of state - to spite their face they merely diminish themselves rather than strike out for freedom.
They already have it.
