Up in smoke

The kafuffle about the Parliament's own smoking ban, or lack of it, gathers apace. The most egregious comment on the whole affair comes from Deborah Arnott who vapours,
Deborah Arnott, director of the antismoking charity Ash, described the latest decision as “scandalous”.

“There can be no justification for politicians to place themselves above the law and it makes a mockery of the commission’s proposals for an EU-wide smoking ban,” she said
.

Above the law, Ms Arnott? That would presuppose that there is a law. What the Parliament had was a voluntary agreement to ban smoking on its premises. The agreement was flouted across the board and the governing body of the Parliament decided that rather than bring itself into disrepute it would bow to popular pressure and rescinded its decision in a 12-1 vote.

That my dear is democracy. What you propose is nothing of the sort. Indeed it is a form of dictatorship.

There was a Dead Kennedy's song that put people like Ms Arnott in perspective, 'California Uber Alles'.

Zen fascists will control you
100% natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face
