The singing axeman.

Sometimes I sing, most often wandering willingly towards work. The other day I had dropped off child at her crèche, and having sung shanties all the way there I was still humming, pomming and indeed belting out hymns. Ahead of me walked a female figure I recognized and I as pulled level she turned to me and said,
"Thank god it's you, I heard the singing, and thought it was an axe man coming up behind me. I thought that you were singing yourself into the mood to chop me up".

Now, though she is a Lib Dem MEP even that doesn't serve as a proper excuse to chop somebody up on a public highway, at least not so close to breakfast.

Am delighted to discover I'm not the only one trampling out vintages with every step... are there many of us with hymnal earworms speaking through the earthquake, wind and fire? Literally, in my case.

Earworm was recently shortlisted as the Germans' favourite word, so it must be a common phenomenon there too.
