Fine Gael MEP and TD (now there's a nice pension package) Gay Mitchell has been waxing lyrical on how democracy should work.
In a interview in the Brussels political freesheet, EU Reporter he made the following statement concerning the UN's millennium development goals,
"In any programme for government to be negotiated in the future, meeting our 0.7% commitment should be one of the programme agreements. This should be legislated for so that future governments cannot again depart from the commitment".
This clearly seems to suggest that today's government should be able to bind a future Government. Something that is in general parlance fundamentally anti-democratic.
