McCreevy Slaps down Greek Government

Having ordered in the statisticians only in the last few days the EU has delivered a further blow to the pride of the Greeks - and by the gods they are not lacking in that department - Cheeky Charlie McCreevy refutes the Greek government’s position on the basic shareholder law. Charley is quoted as saying, “since there are accusations, community services are obliged to examine them”, while the Commissioner’s spokesperson, Oliver Drewes added that “Greek authorities last week promised to get back to us with additional information within a fortnight”. These statements are in direct contradiction to the troubled government's position which was that they were under no further obligations to the Commission in the affair and in no way did they have to explain themselves.
