Self hate starts at home

What is it about us and our history that the elite hate so much? I ask this because I found something this morning that frankly disgusts me. Sadly it comes from a regularly reelected Conservative. Christopher Beazley, currently Tory MEP for the Eastern counties, thank goodness is not standing for re-election to the European Parliament. It transpires that he moderated an event in the European Parliament in January that I missed, called
"United Europe – United History: A Mission to Consolidate a Common Memory"
That is bad enough in itself, but what he said as the Chairman is even worse,

"Naturally, the fact that the fate of central and eastern Europe was surrendered to the control of the Soviet Union, is uncomfortable for many in western Europe, not least for my own country.

“During this terrible period in our collective history no one emerges with honour.”

Actually Mr Beazley I am not ashamed of our history. As a leading and pro-active member of the Atlantic alliance the UK stood up to the Communist threat as well as it could. Yes we let the eastern countries of Europe down at Yalta, yet in reality there was little option at the time. But it was the actions of people like Margaret Thatcher in alliance with the Americans and the Pope, against the teeth of sustained opposition from many countries in Western continental Europe including France and Germany that finally forced the collapse of the Communist system.

To say that nobody emerges with honour was pandering to an audience and self-abasement, we should have nothing to do with it.

Too right!

Why should those of us who stood up to the Communist menance in Eastern Europe and were prepared to lay down our lives in the defence of freedom be ashamed of anything?

Sounds like one of those memory holes in a certain book

No it wasn't, it was are carefully planned and managed Hegelian Dialectic strategy between Communistic (fascism) ideology and centrally managed Capitalism ideology.

The Cold War was a planned deception by the 'elite' to further their own agenda for World Domination, just as the EU is today.

The Pope, the Jesuit Order, the Military Order Malta, the Black Nobility and their political puppets, all played their role in this strategy.

Please do your own research:
Communism, Democracy, and Catholic Power (1951)

Wall Street and the Bolshevik Revolution (1974)

Vatican & Jesuits

????
On which planet? If the Coild War was a planned deception by 'elite', why would they need the EU?

anonymous is not a name that inspires any confidence.

I have been told this nonsense by mainly Polish people who think Chuchill should have stood up to Stalin. I remind them that the Nation had just gone through the European war and was still up against Japan. No one was relishing future bloodshed against a former ally at that time I`m sure.

Agree with your main point but have to say that you are wrong about Germany.

West Germany's post-war record in standing up against communism is one that they can be proud of. The easy - and populist - thing for a West German government to have done at that time would have been to have pursued an understanding with the Warsaw Bloc that saw a reunited Germany outside of NATO but formally neutral.

The fact that successive West German governments - both Christian Democrat and Social Democrat led - rejected this option is hugely to their credit.

Konrad Adenauer's rejection of the Stalin Note in 1952 stands as one of the most significant points in the Cold War.

Elaib,

hate to disagree with you, but Yalta was as much an act of appeasment as Munich.

But you have to understand what "nobody" means in this context. It's real meaning is "anybody" in the sense of "anybody worthy of recognition". This automatically excludes Margaret Thatcher, President Reagan and Pope JPII.

The "nobody" to which Beazley refers are the assorted leaders of europe who would have handed the western part of the continent over to the Soviets faster than anyone could say Third Shock Army. They'd have then bleated for Britain, the Commonwealth and the US to come and save them again.

Totally agree with you. I'm sick of revisionist history and people apologising for being English. Our nation dates from c.900AD and Britons go back even further - 330-320BC.

As for the Hegelian-Marxist dialect, yes, probably because it has a provenance, but do you think we can stand alone this time? Do you think the USA will ride to the rescue at the eleventh hour?

Intersting thought about a deep conspiracy, I will have to do some reading before I fall into line on that one thouh, to me it initially appears a case for OPccam's Razor.

Oddly enough I have a feeling that the US would, in extremis come to our aid. The problem is that this time it would have to be almost entirely out of the goodness of their hearts.- Last time the unstated war aim of destroying the European nation's influence in the ret of the world was a great bonus for them as it created a US hegemony that still exists today - Though teh State department are begging to feel that might have been along term strategic error.

Mike, fair point, but Adenauer was the exception that proved the rule. TheGovernments were so in hock to the Americans they were not at liberty to do anythiong else.
