Margot goes native: loses friends

It seems that she is not really welcome back in Sweden. According to leading Swedish Commentator K-G Bergström the Swedish Prime Minister blocked her return to Swedish politics last year and will continue. The reasons suggested are that he would prefer to see Pär Nuder as his successor but more importantly that he "cannot control her". It appears that since first arriving here in 1999 the fragrant Margot has lost all touch with Sweden and is regarded as somebody who has gained an "iconic" status of "Sainthood" according to today's Expressen.
The Social Democrats who only last year were seriously considering her as a future Prime Minister are desperate to claw back the left where they see support sipping away to the Eurosceptics of the Juniliste. They see Margot as a uncontrollable centrist Brussels blancmange.
I would have to disagree, she is no centrist.

Well I hope you're right. But I'm afraid most Social Democrats still think she´d be a better leader than Nuder. I think the sceptic minority is very worried.

One thing though, Göran Persson's dislike for Margot Wallström is nothing new. Its goes back at least to the election of 1998. That's why he sent her of to Brussels in the first place.

I understand it she who left the Social Affairs Ministry, walked out, rather than Goran who ran the show. And I am sad to have to agree with you about the sceptic position.
That being said the unpleasantness in the Swedish media directed at the Junelist is only there bbecause the established parties are frightened of their potential.
