A moment to cherish

Many of you will be aware that I am an Englishman. As such I cherish those things that hold true to the English, such as tea, fog, and the certain knowledge that one is held in contempt by the French.
Well imagine my suprise, nay shock, when at the Paris 'No' rally I walked onto the stage, in front of 5,000 baying Frenchmen and women (and souvereignist traditionalist French men and women at that). In my hand was a Union Flag which I rather embarressedly waved at them. They erupted, I was cheered to the rafters. Astonishing. A moment I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Anon, you are, of course absolutely right...
but miserable.
I however am an Englishman and a Briton, happy to carry the flag that I have served under (in a Scottish regiment)and my fathers and fathers fathers have fought under.

Quite.

Only the desperate to avoid giving offence at at all costs miserablists want to deny all and sundry from flying their own flag. Like the Navy who banned their ships from flying the St George flag on St George's day to "avoid offending" the crews of some Turkish ships in port.

What tosh. Why shouldn't the Turks proudly fly their flag, the French proudly fly theirs and we proudly fly ours?
